What do i have to do to have a better chance at going to a good university? Other then GPA requirements, what other things are good...clubs....community service?What key things help on your college transcript?
On a college application they are interested in a few things.
Grades - is there evidence of academic ability.
Class standing - same thing, but compared to others in your school. These two things are the best predictor of college success.
Standardized test scores -
HS classes - like AP classes
Activities - are you a well rounded person, what are you like, will you contribute to the campus community.
Essay - what are you like as a person.
The 'college application coaches' stress activities, because for high end students it is the only thing that differentiates them. Most schools, moderately selective to selective, are interested in regular people. Highly selective schools, of which there are a small number, are trying to make decisions about students who have excellent scores and high grades, so activities count.
