How can someone go about changing the name on their college transcript?

My fiance's nickname is on his highschool and college transcripts. He is attempting to go back to college after a 10 year ';break';. He wants to go back under his birth name, the name on his birth certificate, social security card, and passport. The problem is that the college he wants to transfer to will not accept his real name. They say he must admit himself under the name on his transcripts, and that he has to legally change his name to his ';real'; name. Have you ever heard of this? What should he do? What are his options? How can someone go about changing the name on their college transcript?
Are you sure you heard their response correctly? I know of situations where they wanted you to continue the application process under the ';nickname'; since that's what was on the application packet/transcripts/etc. and that is how admissions has the person recorded. Then after being accepted, simply change at that time.

But maybe he just talked to someone who was cranky and having a bad day? I'd call admissions and ask them again about the proper procedure to keep records straight and to keep everyone happy. It shouldn't be that big a deal. How can someone go about changing the name on their college transcript?
He needs to contact the original college where his nickname is being used. Call the Records Department and tell them that he is requesting an official name change on all of his transcripts. He will have to prove that is his official name by showing them the b/c, ssc, and passport. It will take some time... but they should do it for him.
