How long to colleges usually take to process transcript requests?

I know it will vary somewhat, but I have heard stories of them taking weeks from the time the request is received. I think this is unacceptable because people need these documents to be able to continue with their education. All of my requests are in the mail, but I am a little worried since I have heard so many stories...

At my school, it was usually ~2 weeks, more or less depending on how busy they were. They are usually busiest at the end of every semester, when people are graduating or needing transcripts for jobs or graduate school.





But my college is just that, one college. I've heard that large public universities (I attended private) can take longer, because they have such a huge volume of requests.





My advise is to request a few official transcripts for yourself NOW, when you don't need them. They give them to you in a sealed, signed envelope. DON'T open them (otherwise they are invalid as ';official'; transcripts), just save them in case you need an emergency one and can't wait for the office to process a request. That way, if you need one right away, you have those in your drawer to fall back on.





I got this tip from one of my friends at college, and I think it's a great idea.
