Right now I'm attending SJU as a freshmen, and I want to transfer out to a different college after my spring semester.
I want to know, how big of a role does my HS transcript and SAT play when transfering?
My HS GPA was a 2.0 and my SAT was a 1600 out of 2400, and my college GPA is a 3.5.
Will colleges decline my admission right away after seeing my HS transcript? How important is the highschool transcript and SAT when transfering to another college?
Your high school transcript most likely have no bearing on transferring to another school. Most colleges have retention percentage around 80% and they need to fill those spaces left void by freshmen that do not return (much like SJU will have to do once you transfer). Therefore, it is easier to transfer into a school after a year or two of college than it is to get admitted straight out of high school, and they tend to look at your college transcript just to see that you are able to tackle the demands of college work. If you have a GPA of 3.5, I would imagine that would trump anything you did in high school (assuming they even choose to look at your high school transcript). I know a kid from high school that had a similar GPA and SAT scores, did well in community college and ended up transferring to Boston College where they did not look at either his high school transcript or his SAT scores. Most likely, they will only look at your high school transcript after you're accepted just to see if you place out of any prerequisites, and they most likely will not request your SAT scores under any circumstance. Also, the fact that you did well as a freshman shows that you are serious about college and did not get caught up in partying too hard which is a tremendous accomplishment (my first semester GPA was a 1.1). Good luck and I hope this helps! How important is the highschool transcript and SAT when transfering to another college?
Most colleges give importance to high school transcripts and SAT if your college work has been less than a year.
Those colleges that don't count high school in their admissions decision clearly mention that they don;t require your high school transcripts.
If you are too worried about your former school scores you could either wait for one more semester (and work hard in the meanwhile) or you could ask for super-duper recommendation letters from your current profs that might get your new transfer college thinking you have improved in college.
I doubt that your HS record will matter very much; it is your current college record that will be important.
High school records don't matter much when transferring.
No, colleges will be more interested in progress, they are interested in finding out if you are capable of doing better. Since your college GPA is much higher than your HS, that is proof that you have potential to do better. Hence, colleges will look at that rather than ur HS transcripts. I would recommend applying to good state colleges but not Ivy Leagues!! Also find out if you can transfer your credits from the current college.
I think policies differ from college to college.
