I know how to do this but it might be different than the way you are talking about.
Go your first 2 years of college at a technical school where you only have to have a HS diploma, pass their entrance exam and have the prerequisites completed. Then finish your other two years at an University or College of your choice. By have good grades in the technical school you have ';Proven'; yourself. Your excellent GPR will cancel out high school grades.
I do not mean to make you angry but I do not think a letter with the ';I am all better now so take a chance on me'; will work. There are too man what if''s. The biggest one being will you take your medicine if a parent is not there to administer it.
I had problems way back in high school too but my reason was because I did not feel like doing anything that interfered with my social life. However by time I was 26 and had been working and struggling like a dog a a poultry processing plant for 8 years (at minimum wage - $2.75/hr at the time) I had grown up quite a bit and came out of tech school with a ADN and a 3.75 GPR. Also a nomination for ';who's who in america's junior colleges'; I could almost name my university to get my bachelor's in nursing and hospitals had lined up to pay my tuition if I would only work for them. It was great. But nobody - Absolutely nobody - except a tech school would take me at first. How to let colleges know that your high school transcript does not reflect your abilities?
Well, as far as universities, I don't know what to tell you but you can go to a junior college and get your basics taken care and then transfer to a university or graduate there with your assiocates degree and then go on to better your education at a university, talk with your special ed. teacher and counsler and principle about it they will be more than happy to anwser any questions that you have!
Talk with someone at the college admissions office. They will be able to advise you.
